An Optically Pumped VECSEL (OP-VECSEL) shown below incorporates a VECSEL chip mounted on a temperature control unit and and external cavity mirror.

The Layer Structure design includes and integrated semiconductro mirror that acts as one end of teh laser cavity

 Advanced processing techniques yield VECSEL chips mounted on high thermal conductivity CVD diamond with leads to efficient heat removal.

This allows for multi-watt generatie with efficient tuning over 10's of nanometers.
